While I believe that climate change is occuring, I don't believe it's all the fault of mankind. It is , of course being hastened by our use of fossil fuels. My advice to this government would be to cancel the building of new nuclear reactors( whilst the fuel generated may be "clean" the waste it produces isn't), abandon the feed in tariff for solar energy, and use the money saved to install solar panels on all council/social housing and all properties where the households income is less than the national average. All those households above the national average would pay a percentage of the cost of installation.

I have to disagree...And 'energy' and 'climate change' tend to go hand-in-hand. So I'd say housing the policy-making in one department makes a lot of sense.

Hi Kieran,

I read your comments with great interest - and will definitely read the article from futerra (thank you for flagging it).

I would just point out, though, that whilst the ICM/Guardian poll is reassuring, there are lots of other polls that make for more depressing reading! From the media side, for example, in December last year the Daily Mail claimed a survey revealed that more than a third of people think global warming claims are exaggerated. And as recently as April the Daily Telegraph commented on a poll, done by the BBC, which found that 25% of British adults did not think global warming was happening. So there's still a way to go on this front. I take your point about thinking positive and big, and hope there are more like minded individuals out there!

On your suggestions to blog on the benefits of generating energy in the UK without requiring fuel input, or on the “green” sector, my colleagues in DECC have already done so previously - do have a read if you get the chance.

I note your points - but would respectfully disagree. DECC is neither 2 faced, nor 'selling out' on any policies. If you're minded to take closer look at the work we do, it may change your mind.
