My name's James Godber. I'm currently working for the Foreign Office in Doha, the capital of Qatar where I have a role in the British Embassy and am the UK's climate change attaché. You may be wondering why we need someone to work on climate change in Qatar? Well I'm based there because the city of Doha will be the next host of the UNFCCC Conference of Parties meeting (COP18). The UNFCCC is the primary forum for the countries of the world to discuss action needed to tackle climate change. In a nutshell my role is to work with the government of Qatar to help ensure they as hosts of COP18 will be able to secure agreement from all countries on the steps needed to deliver a new legal framework to govern the efforts of governments to keep greenhouse gas emissions within safe limits and so avoid the worst effects of climate change.
